Privacy policy

Data we may process

• Account: email, name and preferences when you create an account or claim a profile.
• Site/app usage: pages visited, searches, approximate location (IP/geo) and product events (e.g. clicks on deals).
• Precise location: in the Android app, only when you tap “Use my location” and grant device permission, we use the current coordinates to sort nearby businesses. They are sent to the API during the request and are not stored by Melhor Guia Portugal. You can deny permission and keep using municipality or postcode.
• Search history: if you enable this option in your account preferences, we keep your searches linked to your profile for up to 180 days to show them under “Recent searches” and personalise suggestions. You can disable it and delete the history at any time; individual searches are not shown to businesses.
• Push notifications: device token (FCM), platform (Android) and optional link to your account if you are logged in.
• Content you send: reviews, claims and contact messages.
• Purchase partners: when you click an affiliate offer you leave our environment; the purchase and payment happen at the partner store, under its policies.

What we use it for

• Run the guide, search, business profiles and deals.
• Personalise content by municipality/region.
• Send notifications (news, deals, local alerts) when you allow the app.
• Analytics (e.g. Google Analytics) to improve the product.
• Security, abuse prevention and legal compliance.
• Promoting offers with affiliate links — we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you.

Android app and notifications

The app is a native shell (Capacitor) that loads the website and uses Android APIs (including Firebase Cloud Messaging). The push token is stored in our database to deliver messages. You can revoke permission in Android settings at any time; invalid tokens are discarded.

Sharing

We do not sell your data. We may share it with providers needed to operate the service (hosting, email, analytics, Firebase/Google for push) and partner stores when you follow an offer link. Authorities may receive data where legally required.

Business data and public sources

Business profiles are built from public sources: the National Register of Local Accommodation and the National Tourism Register (Turismo de Portugal), OpenStreetMap and Portal BASE. Local accommodation contacts are those published by the RNT under article 10 of Decree-Law 128/2014; we do not publish the owner's name or tax number. If you own a registration and want to correct or remove the data, contact us or claim the profile.

Your rights (GDPR)

You can request access, correction, deletion, portability and information about processing. Write to contacto at melhorguiaportugal.pt. You can also complain to the CNPD.

Retention and security

We keep data for as long as needed for the purposes or legal requirements. We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures; no system is 100% secure.

Children

The service is not aimed at children under 13. If we learn of an improper registration, we will remove the data.

Changes

We may update this page. The date at the top shows the current version. Continued use after relevant changes means you are aware of them; for push notifications, operating-system consent is still required.
